When we touch a piece of ice, we fool cool for the following reasons:

1. When we touch a piece of ice, first transfer of heat takes place from our body to ice as there is temperature difference.
2. Ice will start melting that is solid state of ice will be converted to liquid state of ice by absorbing heat energy from our body.
3. Latent heat of fusion of Ice=80cal/gm.
4. For 1gm of ice to get converted, 80cal of heat is absorbed.
5.  As, heat energy is absorbed from our body we feel cool

Answer:

When we place ice in our hands we feel cold because the ice absorbs the heat of our hands. Therefore, the ice melts and evaporates by absorbing the heat.
