why do you like chinese
Answers
Answer:
Chinese (simplified Chinese: 汉语; traditional Chinese: 漢語; pinyin: Hànyǔ[b] or also 中文; Zhōngwén,[c] especially for the written language) is a group of languages that form the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages, spoken by the ethnic Han Chinese majority and many minority ethnic groups in Greater China. About 1.3 billion people (or approximately 16% of the world's population) speak a variety of Chinese as their first language.[3]
Answer:
Chinese is an amazing language, rich in dialects, one of the oldest languages, and the most widely spoken in the world (it is spoken by more than 1.3 billion people) - one of the most difficult languages to translate.
Explanation:
There are abut 1.4 billion people in China, including maybe a hundred million who are not ethnically Han Chinese. It’s a big place. Any opinion about why a person likes Chinese people is in danger of sounding like a stereotype. I base mine on Americans of Chinese background I have known, including two college Hawai’ian roomates with Chinese or part Chinese roots, a few Chinese students in classes I have taught, a few immigrants I have known and from deep reading in Chinese history.
So here come my stereotypes. The people I have known have been smart, mostly good-humored, creative and have good work ethics. Immigrants from China I have known especially appreciate the freedoms we Americans possess as a birthright, that are less evident in China, given the current authoritarian government.
China has a grand and often tragic history. That a culture can continue to be great for two thousand years despite catastrophe aftercatastrophe says that perseverance is a national characteristic. I admire the art and the poetry (which I know only in translation) is often superb. I love the food, although I have sampled only a couple of the regional cuisines.
The Chinese folks I have known are not paragons of virtue. A couple are notable for selfishness and looking out for number one. A couple are the stereotypical hard-working achievers. As humans, Chinese seem to be like Americans, just people with all their joys and sorrows. One, very long ago I was in love with (broken heart territory).
In the end it’s simply a personal thing. I cannot give any particular reason. I just like the Chinese, the people, the culture. In terms of things beyond personal likes and dislikes, China is an emerging superpower and an economic rival that we had better take very seriously. American leaders who seem to be pivoting to Russia and demonizing China I think are being criminally foolish.
