Answer:
Tread worn away completely: especially when the wear on the outer rubber exposes the reinforcing threads within, the tire is said to be bald and must be replaced as soon as possible. Sometimes tires with worn tread are recapped, i.e. a new layer of rubber with grooves is bonded onto the outer perimeter of a worn tire.

Answer:
Once grip is lost, the amount of friction between the tires and road drop by about half (which causes skidding and hydroplaning). Lastly, once the tread is gone, all that is left is the rubber over the belts. Once that wears through, the tires will literally come apart while driving, throwing pieces all over the road.
