Answer: Hi Harsh, When water level rises in the tube, it indicates that carbon dioxide is produced by germinating seeds. So, the role of KOH here is that it absorbs the carbon dioxide gas which creates a vacuum in conical flask and finally pulls the water in the bent tube which proves respiration in plants.

GOURIJANI: Hi Harsh ??????/
GOURIJANI: CO2 is also produced by plants . then why germinating seeds ????
Tasu06: To fulfill the high-energy needs ofa germinating seedling, cellularrespiration increases as a seedemerges from dormancy and begins germinating. ... As theseeds respire, they are taking in oxygen and respiring out carbon dioxide, but the carbon dioxide isabsorbed by the calcium hydroxide.
