It is a rare occasion where citizens have to fight for equality and for being treated equally. These rare occasions occur when the majority tries to suppress the minority and then the minority has to step up for saving their rights and standing for themselves as they have the right to be equal to everyone else in the country.

Though there are provisions in the constitution of our country about equality and equal treatment sometimes it happens so that the lower strata or the minority faces the problem of being treated unequally.

Answer:

Citizens of a country often has to fight for equality. This is because even if a country claims that it promotes and ensures equality among all sections of its citizens, it is often observed, that there is discrimination and ill treatment of various lower class, poor, oppressed citizens.

Citizens belonging to minority community are often not treated equally and are oppressed.

This is why, citizens often fight, either alone, or as a group, for equality and equal rights.
