Because they think that their country was in the middle of the earth that is why they place their country in the middle and also they will show their country is bigger than the country which is actually bigger than that.

The map makers or cartographers place their own country in the middle of the map as it is easier for them to make maps from their point of view, keeping themselves in centre. Also, earlier while making maps, map makers were not aware about the existence of other places and thought that their region was in the centre of the world. Previously, Cartographers used to done explorations with the help of the magnetic compass and the pole stars which make them believe that their country is in the middle while others are seems to be weirder than theirs.
