Even though Jessie and Pescud were from very different backgrounds, Jessie acknowledged and appreciated the fact that Pescud was willing to follow her halfway across the country just so that he could meet her. Any woman would gladly choose a man who is so loving and dedicated to her.

Jessie was a young and beautiful woman from an aristocratic background whereas on the other hand John A Pescud was a travelling salesman in a plate glass company.
He was travelling through a chair car where he first saw Jessie and fell in love with her.He followed her to her home and met in father Colonel Allyn and told him everything truthfully.
So i think it was Pescud's honestly and truthfulness due to which Jessie agreed to marry Pescud despite so much difference in their background.
