Answer: As an orphan, Dorothy stayed with Uncle Henry and Aunt Em in a small house on the prairies. Uncle Henry was stern and hardly talked to Dorothy. Aunt Em never smiled or laughed. In fact, she would press her hands on her ears when she heard Dorothy’s cheerful voice. So, as a child, Dorothy really didn't have a close relationship with them. Dorothy’s relationship with Toto was very special. It was Toto that made Dorothy laugh and saved her from growing sullen too. Dorothy played all day long with Toto.
