Einstein’s first wife was also a physics major. But not a good one. She was also kind of a grouch. She never smiled.

She loved physics and when Einstein published his famous papers in 1915, she wanted to share in his public adoration and glory. She became jealous of her husband. Very jealous. Too jealous. Einstein promised if she would agree to a divorce, he would give her all the money he’d win from the Nobel Prize. She agreed and bought two small apartment houses in Germany. She kept their two kids.

Then Einstein married his frumpy dumpy giggling cousin who only wanted to make Einstein happy. She loved to cook and was always smiling in photos taken of her husband and herself ( Einstein’s first wife never smiled ). His second wife didn’t know or understand physics and had no interest in it. All she wanted was to make Albert happy.

And she knew and didn’t mind his constant mistresses, because he always came back to her. She was a sweet gal who unfortunately died early in 1936 after about 15 years of marriage to Albert. . He never remarried

Answer :

Einstein's personal life was quite problematic. His mother was against his marriage to Mileva because she was older than him and very intelligent. So, he put the wedding off for some time but eventually married her in 1903 and had two sons. His marriage to Mileva faltered because of the gradual loss of her intellectual ambition and her unhappiness as a housewife. The couple divorced in 1919 and Einstein married his cousin Elsa the same year. His second marriage coincided with his rise to fame.
