Why do you think Helen was suddenly able to feel repentance?
Answers
Before learning the secret of learning words and their meanings and their association with real life objects and incidents, Helen's heart knew no sorrow, nor regret. Helen had lost temper in an argument with Miss Sullivan over the difference between 'water' and 'mug'. In anger, Helen dashed the new doll, which Miss Sullivan had brought for her as gift upon the floor. The same day Miss Sullivan took her out and explained to Helen the secret of language by putting her hand under the water gushing from a spout and writing the word 'w-a-t-e-r' on her other hand. This cleared Helen's all doubts regarding words. As she returned home, she tried to put the broken pieces of the doll together; but she could not. Then her eyes filled with tears; she realized her mistake; and for the first time she felt repentance.
