Damaged seeds float on water because the damage occurs inside the scene so when the damage occurs inside the seed the seed usually becomes hollow so air stays inside the seed which makes a lighter so that it can float

According to Archemede’s principle a certain thing float on water if its weight is less then the volume of water it displace.
Damaged seeds become hollow and so their weight is lighter in comparison to the good seeds. So damaged seeds float on the water.
Also, weights of some insects are very less. So, they also float on the water because they displace more volume in comparison of their weight.
