Why do you think parents and doctors get very worried if a child gets a head or spinal injury?

An injury in the head means that any part of the brain is very vulnerable to being damaged. This can lead to loss in any type of function including involuntary functions of the entire system of the body. Spinal injuries can mean loss of motor from a particular point to a particular point depending on the depth and position of injury. This is because all our nerves travel through the the spinal cord.(I may be wrong about the nerve part. Not sure if all or most travel through the spinal cord). ALSO. IF the medulla oblangata is damaged, and severed, it can mean immediate death because it is responsible for the beating of the heart.
