Carrie Chapman Catt   played an important role in providing the  U.S. women the right to vote in 1920. She was appointed as thr President of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. She was also the  founder of the League of Women Voters and the International Alliance of Women.

During World War I, she and Jane Addams were asked to promote peace .  Catt was not interested in the peace movement . She feared that her campaign of the peace movement would put her work with suffrage on back burn . It was decided in the meeting that the NAWSA would help the government by encouraging women  to take over the jobs in men`s absence and would also help the Red Cross without causing any disruption to the women suffrage movement.

Catt wanted to remain focus on women's suffrage which prompted her to remain aloof  with the peace movement , which eventually  led to tension between Catt and others.
