Shifting cultivation is a method where forest area is cleared by burning and land is cultivated for few years.
Although this process can yield high produce for few years but fertility of soil decreases then. Shifting is still prevalent in many parts because it costs less money and labour.
The alternative farming methods require both effort and money which many farmers cannot afford.
