Sir Baniyas Island is situated south west of United Arab Emirate’s capital, Abu Dhabi. It is 170 kilometres away from the capital city and covers an area of 87 square kilometres. It stretches 17.5 kilometres from North to South and 9 kilometres from West to East, and is the largest natural, island reserve of the United Arab Emirates. It is a wildlife sanctuary as well as a bird reserve.
Established in 1977 by the then ruler, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it has a very large number of wild animals which roam free, and several species of plants and trees.
