why do you think some artists wanted to develop a national style of art

I think that those artists thought that they would have their own style and wouldn't use other styles of another country and be ashamed

✔Towards the end of 19th century, many painters wanted to establish a stronger connection between art and nationalism. In order to achieve this, they tried to develop a style that could be considered both modern and Indian. The initial attempts to create a national style of Art on be seen in the works produced by Raja Ravi Varma.

✔He used the Western art of oil painting and realistic life study, back painted themes from Indian mythology.

✔Nationalist artist felt that a genuine Indian style of painting had to draw inspiration from non - Western art and traditions and try to capture the spiritual essence of the east. So they broke away the convention of oil painting and the realistic style, and turned for inspiration to medieval Indian traditions of miniature paintings.

✔Some other artists of different thoughts felt that an authentic Indian style of art would be one which explored the real life of art instead of illustrating ancient books, and books for inspiration from living folk art on tribal designs rather than the ancient art forms.

✔The opinion, recommendations and certain of all these artists ultimately resulted in representing a national consequences with which every Indian could co - relate.
