1. Classification makes it easy to study the properties of one object of one category and also observe any pattern in these properties.
2. Classification of objects helps in identification of objects.
3. Classification helps in location of the things. It is only because of classification we are able to sort out a book out of the thousands books in our school library.
Basis of Classification of Objects.
The classification of various objects into groups can be done on the basis of their similarities and dissimilarities such as: living or non living, animal or plant, nature of materials, use, appearance, hardness, texture etc. The various ways by which objects are classified are as follows :
• All the objects are classified into two main groups; non living objects and living things.
• Living objects can be classified further into two main groups: animals and plants.
• Non-living objects can be classified into many groups on the basis of their nature of material, colour, size, hardness, texture, use, shape, etc.
