Mughal architecture and the reign of Shah Jahan:

The Mughal Architecture reached perfection under Shah Jahan as it can be seen in the constructions of Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Moti Masjid and Jama Masjid. By the time Shah Jahan became the emperor, the empire was well consolidated, cultivation expanded and trade also flourished, many of the Deccan areas got annexed into the kingdom and some kingdoms which accepted the suzerainty of Mughal kingdom were paying large indemnity.

All this added to the royal treasury  enabling Shah Jahan to undertake construction on a large scale. As the Mughal kingdom came into contact with the Deccan, it led to the blending of Indian and Persian Architectural styles. Many architects from different regions of the world came to the Mughal court because of the stability of the empire and patronization of architecture by Mughal emperors.

During Shah Jahan’s reign, the features of putting  up structures entirely with marble and decorating walls with floral designs made of semi precious stones and the double dome became popular. All these added to the beauty of the Mughal constructions. Thus Mughal architecture reached perfection under Shah Jahan.
