The use of the name "Quick Man" in the story promotes the idea that a magician or a "conjurer" needs to have hands quicker than the eye. However, this man feels that he is able to pick up on the Conjurer's tricks and that he is indeed literally "quicker" than the magician. As you read the story, it will become apparent and in the end the name is just an example of literary irony in its most obvious form.
