Why do you think the early nationalists did not want to reestablish the rule of the old kings of India? Would it not have been better than the British rule?

Improper to reestablish old kings rule:

  • There were many factors that led to the early Nationalists not bringing back the system of Indian kings, it was also related with them failing to understand the ulterior motives of the British.
  • The early Indian nationalists did not want to re-establish monarchy and the rule of the king on India instead of the British Rule because the early nationalists were mainly moderates who sided with the British and misjudged their motives, believing that the British would help modernize our infrastructure, trade and overall as a country.
  • The British also could invade India due to lack of strong rulers, India at that point of time did not have unity among states and hugely lacked proper strong administration, bringing back the Indian monarchical system would ensue complete chaos and that's why the early nationalists avoided that route and chose a more democratic future for India instead.
