believe you are referring to the English East India Company by mentioning the year 1947. It is to be noted, the French, the Dutch, the Portugese, etc also had their own East India Companies.
The English East India Company, easily one of the most evil corporations and predecessor to todays aggressively growing corporates ceased to exist in 1874. So it did not exist in 1947, which is why it'd be unwise to talk about what happened to it after 1947.
The English East India Company which was founded on Dec 31, 1600 started their trade with Mughal India and settled in places like Madras and Calcutta. They built forts in these places and also built the city of Bombay. The company grew aggressively under Robert Clive, and later went on to annexing Kingdom after Kingdom and unleashing their tyranny on the natives while looting all the wealth from the land. They also reduced the French, the Dutch and the Portugese as non-players in Trade with Indian Sub-Continent.
The Great Revolt of 1857 was a major blow to the company. In 1858, Queen Victoria with her proclamation took over the task of governing India directly and also absorbed all of the company's armies. After a tedious process for years, the Company was dissolved in the year 1874 by the East India Dividend Redemption Act passed a year before.
Now, in 2010 East India Company was said to be resurrected, that sells luxury artifacts.

After the British dealt with the 1857 mutiny, the Crown nationalized company and took away all their power including machinery and military. It continued to operate for few more years managing tea trade for the government. It ceased to exist after an act in 1874 took care of dividend payment for the promoters.
A corporate group brought rights to the brand name in 1980s which was later purchased by another businessman in 2010. The brand name was reinvented by the businessman to sell luxury goods.
As the irony would have have it, the current owner of the brand is a person who was born in India.
