The grandmother cared for animals because she was a spiritual lady. When she lived in village, she used to feed stray dogs; and when she was shifted to city, she took to feeding sparrows.
The animals also reciprocated her love. In the village, the dogs would wait for her. In the city also the sparrows would daily gather around her in the afternoon. Some of them would sit on her shoulders, and even on her head. At the end, when the grandmother died, the sparrows came to mourn her death. They refused to eat any bread crumb, and after her body was taken away for cremation, they flew quietly.
