Major part of primary sector consists of Agriculture and allied activities. In India, majority of population lives in rural area and in rural area, presence of secondary and tertiary sector is less due to lack of infrastructure and skilled workers while agriculture can employ non-skilled workers and can exist without well developed infrastructure. Also, rural households who own the agriculture land, employ their all family members on the land to work. Hence, when compared to others, Primary sector employs many more number of people. hence, employment is high. But factors like its dependency on rainfall, lack of infrastucture, low prices of agricultural products etc. results into less income and that income is also shared among house members. so as a result, it's overall contribution to national income( means GDP) remains very low.
