It so because the divide and rule policy of the British that included partition of Bengal , separate electorates for Hindus and Muslims brought bitterness between them . It was also thought by the Muslim leaders and people that the British people would keep in interests of them while the Hindus thought that the British were against their country and were denying their rights and freedoms.
