why do you think was the literacy rate in hyderabad state was lower than other princely states?

The nawabs didnot focus on the study and education. The state was rich and people were more of irresponsible with money and more of wastage of time.

Though the princely state of Hyderabad was very rich and enjoyed more freedom as compared to the other princely states but it was very backward in almost all aspects including education. The Naizam of Hyderabad initially didn't focus on education of people.

Moreover the schools established were mostly imparting religious and Islamic knowledge which also lead lower rate in modern education.
