basically, a person is quiet from there loved ones because they must have hurt them deep inside there heart but they dont show completely. The other reason is as you stated word "friend" so in this case the issue could have been that u dint giv time to him/her or tried to replace her/him. Because not everyone is same. Some people struggle and face embarrassment alot on things which r hard for them so they wish for a bestfriend whom they could say all their feelings to and trust them more than anyone. But if they fail to find this type of person in you or any of their friends they will surely get upset and become quite but belive my one day the sun will too rise in their life
