stars twinkle because of turbalence in the Earth's atmosphere. They do not really twinkle ,they just appear to twinkle when seen from the surface of earth. The stars twinkle in the night sky because of the effect in our earth's atmosphere. When starlight enters the atmosphere it is affected by wind. This causes star to two when seen in the ground.

Answer:

The twinkling of a star is due to the atmospheric refraction of star's light. The continuously changing atmosphere refracts the light from the stars by different amounts from one moment to the next. The star light reaching out eyes increases and decreases continuously due to atmospheric refraction. And the star appears to twinkle at night.
