this happens because there is a buoyant force acting on the ball. moreover, the ball (plastic) tries to float on the surface of the water.
also the ball has less density by which it tries to come up

buoyancy is answer

Answer: because water exerts an upward force on it.

Explanation:

we know that according to Archimedes principle, "when a body is partially or wholly immersed in a fluid it experiences and an upthrust which is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by it" that's why when a ball is pressed in water;water exerts an upward force on it therefore as a result the ball try to come up when it is pressed in water.
