When you inflate a balloon, the air pressure inside it is much more than the atmospheric pressure outside of it. If the balloon is pricked, all the air comes tries to come out with great force. This small hole cannot allow so much of air to go out at once.

A balloon bursts when pricked with a needle, because -

• When the balloon is filled with air the internal part of the balloon stays in a high pressure situation.

• But,the external environment acts as a low pressure zone.

• Now,we know that air tends to travel from high pressure zone to the low pressure zone in a high velocity.

• That's why when we make a hole in the balloon by pricking the needle,the air inside the balloon wants to get outside in a high velocity.

• But, the small hole made by the needle is not capable to expel the large amount of air in high velocity. And that's why the total balloon bursts to expel the air as fast as possible.
