QUESTION⤵️
why does a blacksmith heat a metal rim to fit into a cart wheel?
the metal rim is made slightly smaller then the wooden wheel.
on heating the metal expands and it's fixed on the cart wheel and as it cools down after sometime it gets tightly attached and becomes strong.
the metal rim expand because the molecules of the matal start moving away from each other and this cause the metal rim to expand.
after heating some cold water is then poured over the rim which contracts and fits tightly onto the wheel.
