As the earth is not perfectly sphere, it has bulges around the equator and is flat at the poles. So the distance from the poles to the centre of the earth is much small as compared to the distance between the equator to the centre of the earth. So gravitational pull will be greater at the poles than the equator. So the object will move at a much greater speed when dropped from the same distance and it will reach quicker at the poles than from the equator.
