I think it is lump not bump.......
The lump of cotton wool shrink when immersed in water. This is because air present in cotton wool escapes. Thus volume of cotton wool decrease . Therefore..........It may help u

Cotton wool remains fluffy because of air trapped in it. When the cotton is dipped in water, the water fills up the spaces occupied by the air in the cotton and the air escapes. Therefore the cotton ball shrink when dipped in water.
