A candle reduces in size upon burning as the wax gets used up in burning and some fall from the side, and therefore the size reduces.

Explanation:

  • When a candle is lighted, the flame contains massive heat and this melts the wax.
  • The liquid wax is drawn by the candle wick through the capillary action and then it gets evaporated by the heat that is present and this makes the complex hydrocarbons in the wax to decompose.
  • The wax in the candle gets used up and hence the size of the candle gradually reduces upon burning.
