The needle of a compass is a small magnet. That's why when a compass needle is brought near a bar magnet, its magnetic field lines interact with that of the bar magnet. Hence, a compass needle gets deflected.

hey here's Ur answer it gets selected because the compass needle is a small bar magnet by itself. so it has North and south pole this south pole gets attracted toward the North and vice versa. it may also be because of interaction between the magnetic lines of force
