A compass needle is a small bar magnet. When it is brought near a bar magnet, its magneticfield lines interact with that of the bar magnet. Hence, a compass needle shows a deflection when brought near the bar magnet

A compass needle is a magnetic substance . When it is brought near a bar magnet in the magnetic field it experiences a torque due to which it aligns itself in the direction of magnetic field . Hence a compass needle gets deflected when brought in the vicinity of a bar magnet
