why does a cork released under water come up to the surface of water?

Because it has a empty space which is like a packet which contain air and we also know that air is lighter than water so it comes up and floats.. The cork is less dense than the water. Objects with a lower density that water will rise to the surface and float. Density is simply the measure of mass/volume.

cork material has less density then water, so it is lighter than water so it come on of surface of water when it is released under water.
