The Doctor will often advice to put a strip of folded cloth which is usually cold and wet. This is done due to the increasing body temperature inside the body which can cause serious issues and raise more complications (such as in jaundice, the high fever can trigger high amount of bilirubin amount only to worsen it's case)
As, a wet cloth, if placed on the forehead balances the inside and outside temperature to keep the immune system in perfect orderly manner.
