Because our stomach is acidic in medium due to presence of HCL....When the HCL enters the small intestine it is made alkaline there by bile juice secrated by liver...When sometimes the efficiency of bile juice decreases the medium can't become alkaline and as a result indigestion takes place...So doctors give antacid to make the medium alkaline so that digestion may take place.
