why does a drawing pin have a broad top and pointed lower end

Answer:
pressure is equal to force over area, therefore when you apply a force onto the broad side of the drawing pin, the same amount of force is applied to the wall on the small point. However the pressure caused is less on the broadside (due to the larger area) so you do not injure youself and is much higher on the pin side (due to the tiny area), so it can penetrate the notice board.

Answer:
because the pointed lower end is use to exert more pressure on surface as pressure is inversely proportional to area.
