Answer:

For molecules of a liquid to evaporate, they must be located near the surface, they have to be moving in the proper direction, and have sufficient kinetic energy to overcome liquid-phase intermolecular forces. When only a small proportion of the molecules meet these criteria, the rate of evaporation is low.

Correct Question:-

  • Why does evaporation occur only at the surface of a liquid?

Answer:-

  • Evaporation occurs at the surface of a liquid because the particles at the surface have sufficient energy to break through the forces of attraction between them.

Additional information:-

  • Evaporation occurs when molecules at the liquid surface are moving fast enough to escape into the gaseous medium.
