fish lays thousands of eggs because some of them are eaten by big animals and some of them don't get enough Oxygen and some more things that they can't grow , So fish has to lay many Eggs so that so of them becomes a new one.

Answer:

Most fish and reptiles do not nurture or protect their young. ... To compensate for this, fish and reptiles lay a large number of eggs, so that even if a large number of the progeny die or are eaten, there will still be survivors due to the sheer number of offspring.

Hope this was helpful for you.
