Hello Samridh!

We know that a flame is the result of burning of any combustible substance. When a combustible substance is burnt, first of all, it gets converted into liquid(for a short time) and then into gas or vapour, which happens very inconspicuously. The hot vapour, as it burns, rises upwards by convection process. As a result, the flame produced also rises to the same direction, i.e., upwards.
