We know that higher dense substance goes down while in case of lesser dense it rises up .
ex -hot air balloon .
Similarly , the upper part of flame is less dense than lower .So it tries to rise up

seriously but u know if it was due to mass then the oxygen would be more in the lower parts because of gravitational attraction
