why does a freely suspended magnet always settle ​

Its because of the pole since the magnets shows repulsion to like poles but the Fact that they always settle at north and south direction because of the pole

As u better know Earth act as a magnet thats why whenever u left a freely suspended magnet it will be towards North South Drxn due to magnetic attractions...
