Galvanic cells become dead after some time because of discharging.
- A galvanic cell is an electrochemical cell in which chemical change produces electricity.
- In this process, two electrodes are taken anode and a cathode.
- The anode is a negative electrode at which oxidation occurs whereas the cathode is the positive electrode and where reduction occurs.
- During the process, oxidation of Zn to Zn2+ ions causes discharging of zinc metal into the solution.
- When all the Zn2+ is used by there is no more oxidation-reduction reaction and no further flow of electrons. hence, the cell stops working or becomes dead.
