Why does a glass bottle completely filled with water and tightly capped burst when placed in a freezer of a refrigerator?

This happens because of the contraction of water into ice creates a vacuum.

When the vacuum is created the force on the bottle is too great it with stand and hence the bottle implodes on it self.
