A glass pane of a window gets shattered when a flying pebble hits it, because the flying pebble is moving with some velocity while the glass pane is at the rest.

When it hits the glass pane , it imparts momentum to the pane.

Glass is amorphous solid and hence doesn’t have cleavage property.

Therefore, it gets shattered.

The reason is that the glass pane of the window is the hard solid. the flying people suffers change in momentum in a very short time to the force exerted by the glass window on the pebble will be large consequently the glass pane of the window will shutter
