Why does a leaf die, if both of its surface are coated with oil/vaseline.

If oil or Vaseline is applied on the leaf the leaf is unable to do gaseous exchange from the atmosphere. Vaseline and oil acts as air conditioning so it prevents gaseous exchange this leading to death of leaf.
