Why does a marble floor feel colder in winter than a carpeted floor ?

When heat flows from your hand to the object, it feels cool. ... So even when they are at the same temperature, a cold marble floor transfers heat quickly away from your feet, while a cold carpet prevents that flow from occuring as quickly. That makes the marble feel colder.

Carpet is mostly air and air is a poor conductor of heat. Wood is solid, so it is a better conductor. Tile and metal are even better conductors than wood. When you touch the carpet, it is not able to remove heat from your feet as easily as wood, and as a result, it feels warmer.
