why does a metallic piece become very hot when it is surrounded by a coil carrying high frequency alternating current ?

Hi friend,

high frequency alternating current passed through the coil surrounding the metal piece produces eddy currents in the metal piece .The eddy current produce joule heating in the metal piece on account of its resistance.
